I am finally back from holiday and August has been far to busy sketching for research projects and writing. Today I would like to restart my project on the awesome people I know posting a few heroic portraits of my friend Patrizia, by the way, yesterday was also her birthday. I have known Patrizia since I was more or less 12, we met at the public library which we both assiduously visited. We were both avid readers, and we were passionate about art and ballet, we even became friend with the librarian, who was a young woman also named Patrizia, which by the way was also the name of dad's cat when he was a young boy...small world ;) I guess Patrizia won't like me showing her as a nerdy bookworm, but well... I mean it as a compliment, she had the ability of reading a huge 500-one in one day, while it took me a week or two! I think that was the reason we became friends, our shared passion for art, literature and ballet. At some point we even became ballet buddies, we attended the same dance school in our hometown and even became kind of professional in contemporary dance in Torino. However, we were always a bit complementary, she was a writer and I am was a painter, she preferred adagios and I was good at the allegros, she was thin and tall, and I was short and chubby, clearly a handicap in dance, what can I say?! I wished I had long limbs like her, but there was never envy, we supported each other and she never made me feel inadequate for my body shape. But guess what? After many years we are still in touch and she is still a performer. She has developed her own artistic activity as a mime as street performer as the leader of OPS! theatre. She has been in mime for years, collaborating with her husband Mauro and now with her lovely daughter Aura, all pictured down here. And above here: Aura her teenage daughter on a monocycle reinterpreted as the Moon, Yes I wish to Aura to reach the stars of her dreams as a grown up! I think there is a magic in live performing art, there are no digital tricks, you need really to be able to do the stuff you show. There is no second shot, you have to give it all in one shot! You feel the adrenaline pumping in your blood, you are touched by the eyes of the audience, children and adults, you connect with them, meet their eyes... and then magic is made. Patrizia has been a live performer all of her life, performing for schools, public squares and parcs all through Italy and abroad, holding classes for children and lovingly painting their faces. She has made magic for tones of children and their parents, this is my modest effort to give her credit for the magic she has made and shared with her audience for years. Thank you for stopping by, I will come with more portraits soon.
