In the middle of the delirious spring months, among papers to submit, courses,, exams and whatever came around, finally is July and summer has arrived. Evn though today it does not really look like summer, it is all grey, at least it is a bit warm and dump, so it reminds me of our trips to Asia, which have to wait for now. So in the name of nostalgia, here is the painting I have put in my calendar for the month of July, it was a cup of green tea I have tasted in Taipei. I named the painting: A forest in a glass because that is what it felt like! It was a very hot day in July, we were visiting the zoo, from which an airy lift took us to a hilly village, devoted to tea plantations. We sat in a local café, lovely wooden interiors, shadows, peace and quiet. I ordered a green iced tea and this monumental glass, looking like an hourglass filled with leaves, infused tea and ice cubes. It was amazing and I like to remember how the leaves would be in suspension, as if they were trees in a forest or seaweed in the current. July brought also the annual graduation day at the university, for the first time after months I was able to meet the students and my colleagues. it was great to meet also the excellent student, whom I have supervised in her thesis, she ended up gaining a deserved 12, the highest character in the Danish scale and she gave a sharp and exciting presentation of her project. While attending I have made a few sketches to record the moment, and here are a couple of them.
At the same time, my little girl is growing up, she has ended well her exams and after summer, she will leave us to study art in a boarding school for an entire year. I will miss her terribly, but I am awesomely proud! And now I salute you, I will post more drawings through the summer of my naturalistic explorations Thank you for passing by and feel free to leave comment Have a lovely holiday Bertie
