I finally had my last day of work, final exam in digital methods and data science for Media students, a tough topic in which they all made an impact, I am very proud :)
Now I am struggling to keep my lucidity, many things have happened and new projects have been given to me as a gift from kind people who surprisingly appreciate my drawings. I am feeling like I am slowly finding my place in the local art community, a welcoming not competitive community, something I need to grow as a painter and illustration and to build confidence. So in these days I have been working on the sideline, and I was invited by a café chain in Odense to exhibit a series of food illustration, the leading manager of the café seems enthusiastic about my "latte-art" and we made jokes about that and it was very funny ;) So I will resume my passion for illustrating food and cakes, which sounds lovely. She also asked me if I could create a series of small and large paintings to exhibit in the café, her director seemed excited as well, she said, and she will provide for the frames. She invited me to use their café as exhibition space to sell my paintings there and eventual illustrated goods like postcards. I visited the café on Monday with my digital Nikon and took pictures inside and outside of coffee and lattes, poured in beautiful cups with beautiful foamy effects. Plus I took a street view on the cafè, unfortunately the weather was not good, so not many people were visible from the outside, while when it's sunny people can enjoy their coffee sitting outside in the sunshine. Another interesting news is that, while participating at the exhibition in Otterup, I got in touch with a local author and I got commissioned to make a series of simple illustrations, with a line-drawing style, for a little booklet of short stories about local people he knew when he was young. These are the kind of tasks that I would like to do more, not so much big stuff aimed just at selling other stuff, but tasks that mean something to local communities and people, about their stories, their youth and their old friends. I think I found a very nice lively community there, which is giving me already opportunities to develop further as an artist in search of a purpose and meaning, to translate into images and share through my hands, my brushes, colors and the rough watercolor paper, which resemble so much the rough path we find in life. That's it for now, I am living soon for holidays and I will be mostly off-line, so I won't be able to post, but I will resume in the end of July, when I will be back in Denmark. And at the end of July I will participate in the Summer Market at Filosoffen, together with artists from the group Åbne Døre - Open Doors - a telling name for such a nice local group :) From the 28th to the 31st of July From 11 to 17:00 See you at the end of July and Thank you for stopping by Bertie XXX

It was a pleasure to participate to the little exhibition in Otterup, at Nordfyns billedskole - North Fyn Art School. http://www.nordfyns-billedskole.dk/?fbclid=IwAR3Lsq5JyDR6qRG_Dccaw2lllfUuF17g7D4P3MfEllpGlgBc2ALAUWoJL50 I came in contact with lovely local artists, who were kind and welcoming. This led actually to discussing new illustration projects, and I was invited to join their local association, which will organize further exhibitions and activities. You can check a couple of videos on the exhibition on my Instagram:

I will keep you posted on the news :) XXX Bertie A Swan Song is another aquilegia piece, trying to capture the ambiguous zoomorphic images emerging from the forms of the aquilegia flowers as they wither. There was an old myth in Ancient Greece, according to which swans sang their most beautiful song, transforming their annoying squeaking voice into a melodious sound. Because it is hard to swallow that such a beautiful bird, with harmonious proportions and feathers of pure white, looking so gracious while swimming and flying, could emit such a disgraceful noise. Well I guess we have to live with it, while admiring these beautiful creatures nonetheless ;) Like swans, aquilegia plants give birth to beautiful flowers, with breathtaking tridimensional flowers. You can look at these flowers from different angles, each conveying something new and different. The most obvious image connected to the aquilegia is that of a long neck bird. In this piece, I play with the winged long neck figures of the flowers, captured at different stages of their development. The largest flowers have already lost a great deal of their petals, while the smaller flowers are in full bloom approaching an aging-withering stage. The largest flowers are leaving space to pods, resembling elongated birds like herons or cranes. As they die the aquilegia flowers transform into cranes, losing their swan wings, acquiring a more compact figure, the seeds will fly giving birth to new aquilegia plants. The surface of the flowers and stems is smooth but covered by hair, which are detaching from the plant as this is withering. The surface looks as if covered in falling feathers, like an old bird dying, like an old swan ready to pass. This is a large painting, that I have made to the upcoming show at the exhibition in Otterup, from the 18th to the 19th of June: http://www.nordfyns-billedskole.dk/aktuelle-arrangementer1 Here you can see the stages of development of the painting and the original picture from the flowers that I have picked in my garden. Thank you for stopping by, I hope to see some people in Otterup :)
