During holidays I was exhausted and needed to recharge. I stayed mostly unplugged, painting now and then, and reading books such as: 1. All the Lovers in the Night by Mieko Kawakami, on struggles of a woman in dealing with her social life because she is struggling dealing with herself, deep, existential, and hilarious, my favourite kind of book dealing with heavy themes with a laugh, I love this writer, I also read Breasta and Eggs from her and she is just great ;) 2.My days at the Morisaki library, Satoshi Yagisawa, in Italian translation because it is not yet available in English, basically on the discovery of the pleasure of reading, not bad but lacked a certain depth and complexity and I believe that the translation did not help much 3.Don Camillo, a classic Italian by Giovannino Guareschi out of nostalgia, I watched the movies with my grandma thousands of times 4. and I am on my way with The Goddess Chronicle by Natsuo Kirino, a weird retelling of a Japanese creation myth, not bad but a bit too much exposition and too negative good grief! I painted less than I wanted, but I guess I needed to recharge from that too, I just did some quick sketches, not much, but I am missing elaborating my crazy anthro-zoomorphic-botanical delirious. But I feel like, I went a little to botanical, I want more people, bodies and dramatic tensions in my paintings. Now I am back in Odense, must do a couple of work things and I am participating at the Sommerkunstmarked - Summer Art Market at Filosoffen, together with the Open Doors - Åbnedøre Odense group, sharing a room with lovely women creating paintings, pottery, jewelry, textiles. and sculptures. The exhibition will go on until the 31st of July. I have brought my paintings, especially the small ones, let's see what happens ;) For what I could see, most people stopped and gave a long look and then asked me about my technique. I can see that most people regards watercolor as a tough technique and it is. There are some things to be known, it cannot be approached as intuitively as acrylic or oil painting without making a mess. I can see that I could have a future as a teacher as people seemed very impressed and interested in my technique. However, I can see that paintings can feel a bit expensive and not so "useful" to buy, I should really focus on creating illustrated paper objects eventually small booklets and prints. It has been fun but also a little boring to sit for many hours so I decided to exhibit the exhibition in my watercolors. So I have made a series of quick sketches. The last one I have made is a panoramic view, based on this wide angle picture I took with my phone: Here are a few other pictures I took and sketches of my team mates while discussing and selling their art and my exhibition area, also while painting. To be honest I am not really sure I wish to sell, it is hard to be separated by my paintings, I mostly enjoy art as a practice and sharing it with fellow crafters.
